What will my proofs look like?
The utmost of care in preparing your photographs for viewing is taken, all proofs are processed by Sam’s exacting standards of artistry. Many viewed proofs are post processed showing you almost exactly how the finished product will appear. It's important to pay attention to the expression visible in the photograph and less to the finishing technique as expressions can not be changed but a finishing technique is easily altered.
I need to cancel my appointment, is my session fee refundable?
Session fees are refundable.
What should I / We wear to the session?
Individual style is considered in clothing selection. Bright, colorful clothing & accessories are terrific for portions of the session that are catered to the individual being photographed. Solid colors (coordinating) clothing are worn for group photographs and if you have any question feel free to bring several outfits to the session.
If your child prefers a tattered pair of jeans to those khakis that you selected, consider bringing them to your session. The goal of our session together is to capture YOUR child and who he is today. Forced smiles and stiff clothing aside, your child is unique and the vision of Sam Digital Photography is to capture your child as he/she really is, today.
Are you available for events or do you travel out of state for photography sessions?
Yes, on a case by case basis.
What is the difference between a JPEG and a TIFF?
JPEG is a file format that provides a way of compressing images. It's possible to vary the amount of compression depending on the quality needed - the less the amount of compression, the less quality is lost and vice versa. TIFF is the format of choice for archiving important images. TIFF is the leading commercial and professional image standard. TIFF is the most universal and most widely supported format across all platforms, Mac, Windows, Unix. Data up to 48 bits is supported.
How large are the final files?
Files can be made to whatever size or resolution you require depending on their intended purpose. When the image is shot it will be taken in as high-resolution as possible to ensure that it fits your intended purpose. If you need an unusually large image size it is always worth discussing this before hand.
What is on the disk?
Photographs are supplied as high-resolution images in the form of a TIFF files, along with low-resolution files JPEGs. There is also a PDF contact sheet with each disk. The contact sheet contains small versions of all the images taken and is designed for easy viewing.
How are the photographs sent to me?
All images will be supplied on the choice of CD or DVD. The photographs can also be emailed or uploaded onto your server.
Do you give away the rights to a photograph after I purchase it?
It is negotiable. Photographers retain the copyright to their images by law. If the photographer has been paid for his work, the payment will be for the photographer’s time and typically an allocated number of prints. The copyright to the photos will remain with the photographer, and therefore any reproduction without permission is an infringement of copyright.
Once the photo shoot is over what happens next?
After the completion of a photo shoot the images need to be worked on. This process is known as file handling or post production and this is essential to the completion of a professional photograph. The work involved tends to be minimal - but this depends on the work load and client requirements. Once complete, all photos are then downloaded and saved to external hard drives as a back up. All images then receive a basic adjustment of exposure, tonal range and colour balance, which is done on a calibrated monitor. The monitor is calibrated at the industry standard, which gives you peace of mind that the images you receive are an accurate representation of what was photographed. The images are saved as TIFF’s (large files) as well as JPEG’s (smaller files).
